What Is an X Community?

A community on X, aka Twitter, is a lively and active online ecosystem that connects people with similar interests. This community makes connecting, engaging, and building meaningful relationships easier for its members. Twitter created communities to give like-minded people a dedicated space to get closer.

Users will share content in exclusive spaces instead of sharing posts with a large audience. This would enable only the community members to respond to these posts. In addition, communities allow users to start threaded discussions, which creates a wide range of reactions and responses.

Its members can also easily categorize and search for theme-related posts with relevant hashtags. In essence, communities are semi-public groups where only members can join conversations. They are the X’s version of LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp, and forum groups.

Different Roles of People in the Community

Every community on X, aka Twitter, consists of users actively participating in discussions. However, their roles go beyond initiating and building conversations. Every member plays specific roles in these groups. Here are the significant roles of the users in the communities:

1. Administrator

The administrator is the X user who set up the community and, therefore, is the owner. Community admins are responsible for everything related to the community from its creation. However, they can get help from moderators to manage the group and resolve any issues.

To be a community admin, you must have a public account that is at least six months old. If you make your account private, you will lose your admin privileges. In addition, you must have verified either a phone number or email address. An intending admin must not violate or have a history of violating the platform’s terms of service.

Apart from these, anyone creating a community must upgrade to X Premium to qualify. You must continuously meet these eligibility requirements to remain a community admin. In addition, an admin’s duties include the following:

  • Keeping conversations helpful and on track.
  • Hiding violating members’ posts.
  • Reviewing member’s reports.
  • Removing troublesome members from the community.
  • Choosing moderators to help with tasks.

Overall, admins are responsible for managing the community by performing various actions. These include modifying, adding, and removing community rules, names, and descriptions. An admin can invite and add as many moderators as they want. They can also remove existing moderators and add new ones from the members list.

2. Moderators

Moderators in communities on X are in charge of ensuring a better and healthier experience for all members. Moderators have three major responsibilities in the community. These include:

  • Facilitating meaningful conversation.
  • Developing the community’s culture.
  • Connecting people with similar interests.

Typically, moderators must be active in their communities daily by posting, reviewing reported posts, or inviting new members. They must do all this to keep the conversation safe and on track. The community admin is responsible for choosing and monitoring moderators.

The admin may also give them more responsibilities or tasks in the group. A moderator helps the admin to manage the group. However, this doesn’t mean they work alone. Twitter, aka X, works closely with admins and moderators to help manage their communities. They may also monitor them for violations of the moderator guidelines.

If a moderator violates these guidelines, the platform may pause their participation as a moderator in the community. In the worst scenarios, the platform may remove them from the community.

3. Members

Members are other users in the community who comment, repost, post, and like shared content. They play a significant role in making the group active through their discussions and engagement. Members are the key figures in the community because the group won’t grow without them.

Members are responsible for giving admins and moderators the Twitter engagement rate they want. They can also help other community members learn new ideas from the group. As long as members don’t violate the community rules, they can perform better than admins and moderators.
